Traffic offences and driving licence defence
A police officer can suspend a driving licence on the spot, and a vehicle can be taken off the road before any court has heard the case. Both decisions can be challenged, and the window for doing so is short. This practice is led by advocate Igal Yoffe.

Why timing decides the outcome
An application to cancel an administrative suspension is heard within days, and the material the defence brings to that first hearing — the measurement record, the calibration certificate of the device, the officer’s report, medical evidence — often shapes the entire case. Waiting until the trial to raise those points is usually too late to recover the licence in the meantime.

Can an administrative licence suspension be cancelled?
Yes. The suspension is imposed by a police officer, and the traffic court can cancel or shorten it on application. The application is heard quickly, so the material has to be prepared immediately.
What is the alcohol limit for drivers in Israel?
The general threshold is 240 micrograms of alcohol per litre of exhaled air, equivalent to 50 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. For new drivers, drivers under 24 and professional drivers the permitted level is effectively zero — 50 micrograms per litre of breath.
Do I have to attend court in person?
In most traffic matters a lawyer can appear for you, but the court may require the driver's presence, particularly where a disqualification is at stake.
Is it worth contesting a speeding ticket?
It depends on the measurement. Device calibration records, the officer's positioning and the identification of the driver are all points that have led to charges being dismissed. We review the file before advising whether to contest or to seek a reduced penalty.
What happens with points on the licence?
Points accumulate for offences and trigger measures ranging from a driving course to a test or a suspension. Contesting the underlying offence is what keeps the points off the record.
